Attention all astrology queers, Virgo season (23 August – 23 September) kicks off tomorrow and to celebrate, we’re putting a spotlight on 17 LGBTQIA celebrities and allies with major Virgo placements. Yes that’s right, we’re looking at those with the astrological sign featured in their “big three”. But what does this mean? It means their sun, moon and/or rising signs are Virgo.

Our sun is all about your destiny, and general personality and ego. Our moon sign symbolises our hidden selves and deepest desires. And last, but by no means least, our rising (also known as ascendant) sign represents our aesthetic, demeanour and what we project into the world.

I’m a huge fan of Virgos, which for astrology nerds will come as no surprise when I say that I am a Taurus (the two signs are one of the most compatible pairs on the zodiac wheel). Virgos are earth signs who are known for their perfectionism, determination, adaptability, wittiness and passion for social justice. With that in mind, which of the following celebs do you think serve up the most Virgo energy?

Tegan and Sara

Gay twins and pop icons, Tegan and Sara are here to serve up double the amount of Virgo vibes. For our December 2019 cover story, Sara told DIVA: “I’m the most overachieving Virgo human on earth, so wehn I get sick and can’t do things, I feel devastated.” And Tegan, “a classic, neat Virgo” quipped “I believe myself to be an efficiency expert.”

Sara Ramirez

The Grey’s Anatomy and And Just Like That star is a Virgo sun. And do you remember what I said earlier about Virgo’s having a passion for social justice? Well, Sara clearly has bucket loads. Talking to DIVA in 2022, they addressed the importance of onscreen visibility: “When we seek justice, we are looking to change the material conditions of people’s lives. If visibility can spark fresh conversations that lead people to take action, then I am absolutely proud to have played these roles.”

Emily Hampshire

DIVAs around the world fell in love with Emily Hampshire when she portrayed the dead pan Stevie Budd in the hit LGBTQIA show Schitt’s Creek. Getting to interview the Virgo sun actor earlier this year filled this Taurus’ heart with joy. And her work ethic and drive is very Virgo as evidenced by what she had to say when talking to DIVA about starting acting when she was young: “I would highlight entire acting books – which ultimately makes them not highlighted. I went full-focus on that… so I moved to Toronto – Hollywood North – to become an actor.”

Yasmin Finney

This heartstopping actor is a Virgo sun, and it totally makes sense. Since acting her way into our hearts as Heartstopper’s Elle Argent she’s gone from strength to strength and has used her platform to speak up about LGBTQIA issues. We can’t wait to see her in the next instalment of Doctor Who as Rose Noble.

Suranne Jones

Yep, that’s right, Gentleman Jack’s Suranne Jones is a Virgo. Fun fact: the lesbian diarist she portrays in the BBC drama, Anne Lister, is an Aries.

Lili Reinhart

The bisexual Riverdale star also has a Virgo sun placement. Talking to W magazine, Lili described herself this way: “I’m such a big-time Virgo: I’m a perfectionist, I’m very critical, and I like to be the leader.”

Sarah Paulson

The American Horror Story and Ratched actor is a Sagittarius sun and Virgo rising. And having such a successful career, she definitely projects a focused and driven demeanour out into the world.

Zendaya

The Euphoria star has a Virgo sun and Taurus moon sign, so no wonder she gives off so much earth sign energy. Speaking to Vogue Australia about how she prefers to do her own makeup the actor said: “I do it best when I do it myself. I’m a Virgo and I know what I like.”

Sydney Sweeney

Zendaya’s Euphoria co-star is also a Virgo sun, and has another earth placement in her big three with her moon sign being Capricorn. Speaking to Cosmopolitan, the actor attributed her serious approach to planning her career to “the Virgo in me.”

Janelle Monáe

The non-binary and pansexual pop star’s sun is in Sagittarius and their rising is Virgo. With their work in social justice and the adaptability they’ve shown throughout their career, Janelle definitely serves up major Virgo vibes.

Jean Smart

We fell in love with her as Deborah Vance in HBO Max’s super queer show, Hacks. Jean is a Virgo sun and she is the embodiment of the sign’s common traits.

Anna Paquin

The bisexual True Blood star is a Virgo moon and Leo sun. Both Virgos and Leos make for natural leaders, so this is quite the combination to have.

Beyoncé

Beyoncé is a Virgo sun, Scorpio moon and Libra rising. With all the Virgo traits previously discussed it’s clear that she serves up MAJOR Virgo energy.

Shania Twain

The lyrics to gay icon Shania Twain’s greatest hits scream Virgo sun. After all, that don’t impress [a Virgo] much.

Jennifer Coolidge

Jennifer Coolidge quickly became a fan favourite on The White Lotus and this era in her career has been dubbed “The Jenaissance”. Virgos are commonly more introverted, as was her White Lotus character, Tanya, who she played so perfectly.

Pink

This singer’s sun sign is a Virgo, and she has many of the traits – but for this piece I’d like to hone in on her maternal side, another common trait among Virgos. A memorable moment, was when she dedicated her moving speech at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards to her daughter. She’s definitely a rockstar that serves up ultimate Virgo mama vibes.

Dolly Parton

The American singer-songwriter, actor, philanthropist, business woman and beloved LGBTQIA-ally and gay icon is another celeb with two earth placements in her big three: she’s a Capricorn sun and Virgo rising. And in the way I just described her, it’s without a doubt that she gives off mega Virgo energy.
