The One Tree Hill alum has said the year “betrayed” yet “freed” her

It’s that time of year where many of us are posting our photo dumps from the previous years onto Instagram and reflecting on what we’ve learned. Well, it seems that actor Sophia Bush has certainly learned a lot from the struggles she faced in 2023.

The One Tree Hill alum filed for divorce from Grant Hughes in August, and reportedly began publicly dating a woman for the first time. And said woman was former USWNT soccer player, Ashlyn Harris. Like Sophia, Ashlyn had also recently filed for divorce from her wife, Ali Krieger. Cheating allegations circulated both Ashlyn and Sophia, which led to Ashlyn publicly addressing and shutting them down.

And now, Sophia has reflected on the past year in an open and honest Instagram post.

“This past year humbled me, broke me, built me, betrayed me, freed me, and showed me what it means to really be alive,” Sophia wrote in the caption. “No more settling for what falls short because ‘who am I to ask for more?’ This year put me back in my body. I left it a long time ago, in such a way that I forgot what it felt like to inhabit my own skin.”

“This year sent me inward,” the actor continued. “More than I’ve ever been. It took me out of relationship with many of you but put me back into relationship with myself. I hope you are all doing well, but for this quiet and deeply personal experience I am supremely grateful.”

Ashlyn Harris commented on the post saying: “Beautiful words and POWERFUL.”

Sophia’s John Tucker Must Die co-star, Brittany Snow also commented saying, “I love you so so.”

Yellowjackets’ Melanie Lynskey wrote: “Beautiful writing and incredible insight. How brave to be still and listen. Thank you for inspiring me to do the same.”

WLW icon Becca Tilley also left some red heart emojis under the post.

It’s good to see that Sophia has support around her. Here’s to hoping 2024 is filled with more queer cheer for all.
