Last year news came out that Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger were getting divorced. It left lez/queer football fans around the world shocked that the former power couple would be no more. It was great to see what the pair did for LGBTQIA visibility both on and off the pitch.
Thankfully, there are many couples within the world of women’s football to cheer on. Here are just some of our reader’s favourites…
Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird
We’re starting strong with this sapphic power couple.
Former US forward Megan Rapinoe has been publicly out since 2012 and has done so much to bring LGBTQIA visibility to the pitch (and beyond). Former pro basketball player Sue Bird is one of the greats in WNBA history. We hope they’re having a blissful retirement together.

Sapphic football fans around the world celebrated when this #CoupleGoals pairing announced their enGAYgement last year.
Sam Kerr is a football legend. In 2022 she made herstory as the first woman to feature on FIFA Ultimate Edition’s cover. Kristie Mewis is just as iconic as her boo. Last year the American pro soccer player joined West Ham United as a midfielder.

Mexican pro footballer Rebeca Bernal Rodríguez and centre-back pro Janelly Farías Rodríguez received both cheers and boos from football fans when they shared a post-match kiss. Despite the debates this PDA sparked, the two have proudly displayed their love for each other IRL and on social media.

Jill Scott is a football legend who has forged a successful career. From competing on the pitch to winning I’m A Celebrity, her fiancée, Shelly Unitt, has been there cheering her on.
We all loved getting to see Jill be reunited with Shelley on the bridge after winning the crown and leaving the I’m A Celeb jungle.
Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema
Beth Mead holds the record for all-time most assists and all-time second-most goal contributions in the Women’s Super League. And it looks like she had a loved-up Christmas with her girlfriend Dutch pro footballer Vivianne Miedema.
