Back in January, Pearl Mackie announced her engagement to her partner, Kam Chhokar and the happy couple celebrated their engagement in style at the weekend.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Pearl thanked everyone who attended and helped to make her engagement party a special one. Pearl and Kam were joined by friends, family and neighbours to celebrate in the beautiful sunshine in the streets of London on Saturday.
In the post, Pearl described it as, “my favourite day ever”. She gave a special shout-out to her mum, who she described as, “queen of the gays”, and of course thanked her wife-to-be, saying, “Mostly I’d like to thank you my darling, my love, my Kam. You are my favourite person in the world, thank you for agreeing to be my wife and hold my hand through this thing called life. I love you forever! ❤️🔥Guess we should start planning the wedding….? ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤍”
The post was followed by a series of hashtags, but the DIVA favourite was #Pamforever. Are we allowed to start calling the couple Pam now?
The pair announced they were en-GAY-ed back in January in a very sweet Instagram post, with their matching rings resting on top of the cutest polaroid picture of the two kissing.
The post included hearts in the Bisexual flag colours, celebrating Pearl’s Bisexuality. The actor first came out in June 2020 during Pride month in a powerful Instagram post. She later opened up to DIVA about her coming out journey. Pearl is a great advocate for queer visibility, as well as posting about Black Lives Matter and International Women’s Day on her Instagram account.
Pearl, who is most known for playing Bill Potts, the Time Lord’s companion in Doctor Who, began her career in soap opera Doctors. She also has several prestigious theatre credits to her name, including the west-end production of The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time.
Pearl played the first openly-gay companion of the Doctor, paving the way for future queer stars, with Heartstopper star and trans actor Yasmin Finney set to play the role of Rose in 2023.
Everyone here at DIVA wishes Pearl and Kam a wonderful engagement! 🎉
