We can’t wait to see the onscreen chemistry between these two stars

BY NIC CROSARA

I’m sorry, a lesbian short film starring Maya Hawke and Victoria Pedretti!? This is not a drill! And I have even more good news: you’ll soon be able to watch it from the comfort of your living room.

The openly queer Maya Hawke (who also happens to be Billie Eilish’s celebrity crush) gave queer viewers all the feelings in her character’s coming out scene in Stranger Things. Victoria Pedretti also played one half of many a DIVA’s favourite sapphic ship in The Haunting Of Bly Manor. Suffice to say, we’re very excited to see these two share a screen. The short is titled The Non-Actor, and you definitely want to have it on your radar. Here’s what we know so far…

Where can I watch it?

Good news! It’s coming to Mubi on 10 July, so you can watch it very soon.

What’s it about?

The short is loosely based on the novel, The Hearing Test. The author, Eliza Callahan, is also the writer and director of The Non-Actor.

The film follows Elliot (Victoria), who is staying with her ex’s new girlfriend (Maya) while attending a medical trial for her recent unexplained hearing loss. The two get closer as Elliot reconfigures her relationship with her environment and herself.

Is there a trailer?

Yes! There are two short clips which have been shared during the film’s festival run. The first teases the chemistry that the two actors have created onscreen, the second gives a glimpse of the short’s tone.
