As the cold, rain and wind start to officially creep up on us, it’s clear that autumn is here. For some, this period is full of warm mugs, pumpkin patches and s’mores over the campfire. For others, it’s creepy, spooky and with just the right amount of fear factor. And we can’t forget those who see this gloomy period as the beginning of a deep hibernation.
Whatever your vibe is this autumn, we’ve got a series that is perfect for this season.
Cosy snuggle on the sofa
Heartstopper
It doesn’t get more feel-good than this Netflix classic series. Based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novels, Heartstopper follows the lives of a group of LGBTQIA+ teens as they navigate love, heartbreak and growing up. Watching this show feels like a warm hug, making it perfect to stick on while you’re getting comfortable.

Candlelit ghost stories
The Haunting Of Bly Manor
If Halloween is your favourite holiday, it’s no surprise that you see autumn as the perfect chance to get spooky! This beloved horror series follows a young governess who arrives at Bly Manor. Everything seems fine… until she notices apparitions haunting the estate. Oh, and it’s canonically lesbian.
Bittersweet rainy afternoons
Dickinson
“Like Rain it sounded till it curved.” What better way to spend a rainy afternoon than being transported into the life of Emily Dickinson? It’s queer, it’s funny, and it’s perfect for those days when you want to get lost in an entirely different world.
Romantic walk through fallen leaves
Gentleman Jack
We would be remiss not to include this BBC gem on our list. There’s no one we would prefer to embark on a long country walk with than Gentleman Jack, also known as Anne Lister. Set in the sprawling Yorkshire countryside, this series will have you longing for some fresh air… and maybe a 19th-century lover.
Melancholy nostalgia on the walk home
I Am Not Okay With This
For some of us, the lack of sunshine can bring on a bout of melancholic nostalgia. Walking home in pitch black at 5 pm can have that effect. This Netflix drama follows a teenager navigating the complexities of high school, her sexuality and her family. Oh, and she has psychokinetic powers.
Slow mornings with a hot chocolate
Feel Good
Mae Martin’s hit show is the epitome of an autumnal watch for me. The semi-autobiographical comedy is funny, cosy and sometimes thought-provoking, which makes it perfect for a slow Sunday morning.
