DYKES UNITED WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED! SAY IT LOUD, SAY IT CLEAR! ALL DYKES ARE WELCOME HERE!
As the June sunshine blared down over the capital city last Saturday (20 June), hundreds of dykes marched in the streets with placards, flags and carabiners flying for the London Dyke March. Tiny zines were passed amongst the crowd with chants and resources printed on them. It was a sea of queer joy and jorts, marching through central London to the beat of the Samba Sisters Collective’s drumming. Open-top tour buses waved, cab drivers honked when they saw a sign that read “Honk if you love lesbians”, and Lime bike riders rang their bells enthusiastically.
It was a day of dyke liberation and solidarity. Palestine flags were held up high, and placards with messages like “No terfs on our turf” were waved with pride. Everywhere you looked, queer people were making friends, coming together, complimenting outfits or badges, and making sure everyone had water. It was like moving in one body.
