DIVA Film Festival is set to run between 24-28 April 2024 to amplify the portrayal and representation of queer women and non-binary people during Lesbian Visibility Week
DIVA is launching the inaugural DIVA FILM FESTIVAL to run throughout Lesbian Visibility Week in April 2024. The festival will take place at London’s Garden Cinema, which has become a home to LGBTQIA films. The festival will run from Wednesday 24 – Sunday 28 April and will include both feature and shorts films in its programme.
DIVA FILM FESTIVAL will build on the existing partnership with IRIS PRIZE for the five day festival that will amplify the portrayal and representation of queer women and non-binary people during Lesbian Visibility Week.
DIVA FILM FESTIVAL’s Director and IRIS Fellow, Jacquie Lawrence says: “There are very few film festivals in the UK that focus purely on queer female narratives, especially those across the whole LGBTQIA spectrum. The DIVA FILM FESTIVAL aims to do just that and the special partnership with IRIS is a perfect way to package, promote and play films for, about and by queer women and non-binary people. We are thrilled to be bringing the festival to life during a week that is committed to such visibility.”
Festival Director and Founder of the IRIS PRIZE, Berwyn Rowlands says: “We are delighted to be working with DIVA on this new film festival. The IRIS PRIZE has benefited enormously from more than a decade of media support from DIVA magazine. Being able to support DIVA back with our experience in organising film festivals and supplying short films felt like a no-brainer. To be honest, it feels like a natural development for the relationship. This partnership is a great way of increasing audiences for lesbian films. I can’t wait for 2024!”
DIVA magazine celebrates 29 years in print in 2023. If you like what we do, then get behind LGBTQIA media and keep us going for another generation. Your support is invaluable.
