Summer 2023 has been The Age Of Pleasure, courtesy of Janelle Monáe and the release of their latest album. The non-binary and pansexual icon has had us glued to our screens re-watching the queer AF music videos for Lipstick Lover and Water Slide. Both of these singles are a love letter to diverse queer bodies.
There’s been a rampant attack against the LGBTQIA community in the US. While the community must not let go of our rage, we must also find a way to nurture our joy amid the darkness. Last week, the star spoke to Associated Press and shared how they are doing so by prioritising themself: “I have a lot of things that keep me busy. I’m practising guitar. I’m having the best sex of my life. I’m happy.”
“Even in the middle of all that’s going on in this world, I’m finding time to steal joy, to centre joy and to stay surrounded by the people who bring me joy and whom I can bring joy to.”
