The day has finally come. After getting a sapphic kiss between Lightyear‘s Kiko and Hawthorne and seeing their first openly gay teen character in Strange World, we now get to see Disney Pixar’s first non-binary character in their new film Elemental.
Voiced by non-binary voice actor Ava Hauser (they/them), the character Lake Ripple lives in a world which is inhabited by the four elements: water, fire, air and land.
This new film is focused around breaking down the differences between groups in society, making it the perfect platform for this historic leap for non-binary representation. With the likes of The Last Of Us star Bella Ramsey and Emma D’Arcy filling our screens as well, we’re hoping that this addition of non-binary representation will pave the way for more non-binary characters.
