MUNA have released their explosive latest single, One That Got Away, along with an accompanying music video. The video was directed by Ally Pankiw and Taylor James, starring all three band members, Katie, Josette and Naomi, as well as Australian singer Caitlin Stasey. MUNA released their third, self-titled album back in 2022 and have only continued to wow listeners since.
One of the band’s members, Katie Gavin, explained how “This song is just rubbing your hot ass in the face of someone who messed up their chance of being with you. It’s a bit vengeful and mean, but also fun. Fuck it. Once I sent Naomi and Jo the demo they really took the cockiness in the lyric and vocal performance and carried it to the extreme with the production of the track. It became this super bombastic, Janet Jackson-era track.”
The music video sees the band dominate a criminal underworld, from heated games of poker to a successful attempt at poisoning their rival. They don’t take any prisoners, walking out in a slow-motion trio set on vengeance. From each of their personalised suits to the wads of cash flying around them, this single is a showstopper infused with powerful sapphic energy.
After debuting their new single at Coachella, MUNA are now playing for nine of Taylor Swift’s Eras US tour shows, the first of which kicked off at the end of March. At the start of March the band was equally busy over in Australia supporting Lorde and co-headlining Sydney World Pride. MUNA have also announced UK and European live dates, including Reading and Leeds Festival. They’ll also be supporting the ever-iconic boygenius at their show on 20 August in London’s Gunnersbury Park. One That Got Away provides an exciting insight into what MUNA have lined up for the next few months. It’s sure not to disappoint.
