
There is a lot of work to do around the globe in the fight for equality

Once again, the UK has dropped down in ILGA Europe’s ranking of countries based on their record of LGBTQI rights. In the latest Rainbow Map, which was published on 12 May, the UK fell from 14th place, after previously being dropped to 10th place in 2021.
With the exclusion of transgender, non-binary and intersex protection in the conversion “therapy” ban and the rise of transphobia and homophobia, this is sadly not surprising.

Whilst the UK, Bulgaria and Romania are amongst the countries to have dropped in ranking, Denmark has moved up seven spaces to the number two spot. Germany introduced a ban on intersex genital mulitlation and Iceland also gained points for its legislative recognition of trans parenthood.
Pride month is right around the corner, and for anyone who comes up against people asking if we really still need a Pride month, yes, yes we do. There is a lot of work to do around the globe to ensure that LGBTQI people have equal rights.
Renowned LGBTQI activist Urvashi Vaid has died at 63
US LGBTQI activist Urvashi Vaid has died at her home in New York City, as confirmed by the National LGBTQ Task Force. She was 63. The executive director of the Task Force – previously known as the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force – from 1989 to 1992, she first joined the organisation as its media director. The National LGBTQ Task Force is the oldest national LGBTQI civil rights organisation in the US.
