Seventeen years ago, Jennifer’s Body was released, and lives were changed. While it was originally regarded as a flop, it has established a much-deserved cult following over the years. It’s a classic within the horror genre. The film follows Jennifer Check (Megan Fox) and her best friend Anita “Needy” Lesnicki (Amanda Seyfried). Things take a turn when Jennifer becomes possessed and turns into a succubus after she is sacrificed to Satan. It’s gory, camp and fun. Queer fans have celebrated the bisexual representation of Jennifer. Her iconic delivery of “I go both ways” was a sapphic awakening for many.

And now, we’re finally getting a sequel.

Will Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried reprise their roles?

While we’re yet to see an official confirmation, Deadline has reported that both stars have expressed interest in returning.

During a Variety Actors On Actors interview with Adam Brody, Amanda addressed the sequel. “We’re making another [“Jennifer’s Body”]. Are you going to do it?” she asked. She also stated, “I’m not doing it without [Megan].”

What is the plot?

More plot details are yet to be revealed. At this stage, we can only make assumptions from what has been teased in interviews.

Talking to the Petticoat Revolution podcast, Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody said: “Jennifer is a sympathetic character for me, before and after the transformation. I mean, she is very isolated, she’s very lonely, she’s very insecure. Everybody remembers Jennifer when she’s like, ‘I am a god,’ or when she’s at her most radiant and at her most powerful. But people forget about these moments in the movie where she’s like a shell of herself, she’s just exsanguinated almost. And to me, Megan played both of those sides of Jennifer so well.”

Addressing the sequel, Diablo continued: “And one fun thing—I can’t talk about it too much—but you know we’re doing a sequel to this movie, like imminently, and I felt like in the new movie, I was able to explore even more about why Jennifer is sympathetic and what she’s been through. And there is absolutely, to me, a loneliness and a poignancy to that character that people don’t always recognise.”

When will it come out?

We’re still a ways off an official release date, but Diablo Cody has teased that the sequel is “imminent”. Rest assured DIVAs, as soon as we know more, we will be telling you all about it.
