Jane Lynch has gone down in history for playing one of the most iconic TV characters ever – Glee’s Sue Sylvester. Queer audiences everywhere fell in love with the aggressive cheerleading coach, especially when she took to the mic! For many, Jane has provided much-needed lesbian visibility throughout her career.

In 2021, Jane revealed that she had tied the knot with her partner Jennifer Cheyne, who is a screenwriter. Join us in learning more about this happy couple!

The pair actually dated in the 2000s

Long before they got married, Jane and Jennifer actually dated back in the noughties! The couple eventually parted ways at the time, but came back together a decade later.

In an interview with Parade in 2019, Jane said: “We’re very different people now — we don’t have the same insecurities we used to have. We live very peacefully. We have our own routines and separate spaces to retreat to within our home, but then we’ll have coffee together in the morning and meet for a meal.”

Jane and Jennifer have three rescue dogs

The Glee star has always spoken about how much she loves her canine companions, and it’s clear that Jennifer must do as well! In the same Parade interview, Jane revealed that they have two cocker spaniels, Bernice and Rumi, and an elderly pitbull-shepherd mix named Millie.

They got married at Santa Barbara Courthouse

Jane opened up about their wedding in an appearance on TODAY’s Sunday Sitdown. “Jennifer and I have been together forever and we were shopping for insurance for her and I said, ‘Let’s just get married.’ So that’s how romantic it went,” the star revealed.

“We live in Santa Barbara and we went to their courtyard, or courthouse, which is a beautiful old Spanish building,” she continued. “It’s a mission building. Her son, Harry became a minister with the Universal Life Church … So he married us. And it was just the three of us out in the courtyard at the courthouse. And it was lovely.”

Jennifer does all the DIY in their house

In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, Jane revealed that Jennifer is more likely to fix a broken shutter than she is. “She’s really smart. We work so well and we’re really grateful that we found each other,” she said.

“She figures out how to deal with [everything]. She’s like, ‘I don’t need to hire a handyman.’ Although she’s very, very feminine and soft, she’s got a thing of tools that she brings out and she can fix almost anything. Plumbing, and loose shutters, and our air conditioner.”

“That’s the greatest thing about her, because I get overwhelmed, and I have no patience with details. She’s very methodical and she takes things very slowly.”
