The Emmy award-winning docu-series The Lesbian Bar Project is coming to the UK this month for an exclusive UK premiere at The Ritzy Cinema in Brixton on 15 May at 8 pm. Directors Erica Rose and Elina Street will be showcasing their new international documentary episode The Lesbian Bar Project: FLINTA which details the complex and triumphant stories of the FLINTA (Female, Lesbian, Intersex, Non-Binary, Trans, Agender) communities in Cologne and Berlin. The screening will be followed by a Q&A hosted by award-winning director Desiree Akhavan.

The Lesbian Bar Project, founded by New York filmmakers Erica Rose and Elina Street, was created to champion and uplift the shrinking number of lesbian bars across the US. Their 2020 PSA and subsequent fundraising campaigns raised over $117K, and their 2021 efforts garnered over $150K. Their latest project, The Lesbian Bar Project: FLINTA, premiered in Germany on RTL+, supported by Jägermeister’s #SaveTheNight initiative. With over 1 billion impressions and featured in numerous publications, The Lesbian Bar Project has become a global force, partnering with brands and organisations to preserve these vital spaces.

Ahead of this exciting UK premiere, Erica Rose and Elina Street said: “The Lesbian Bar Project was built from queer friendship that was formed in the bars and became even deeper as we spent the past four years making The Lesbian Bar Project docuseries in the U.S. We have a mutual love of these spaces that helped us become the unabashed, unapologetic, people we are today. The United Kingdom only has four Lesbian Bars left and there’s an urgent need to tell queer, FLINTA stories about the UK. We’re thrilled to bring our work to this new audience, an audience that deserves to be heard and seen.”
