Welcome to this beginner friendly guide!

Have you heard the old myth that there are no sapphics who’re scissoring? Well, that’s simply not true. Scissoring can be a lovely way to get laid, and it’s definitely something lots of LGBTQIA+ women and non-binary people do. It’s a sex form that can bring lots of pleasure. Here’s a 101 guide for newbies who’d like to explore this way of being intimate.

It all begins with communication

Just as with all forms of sex, you must start by talking with your partner about what you’re curious about. What are your boundaries and needs? Make sure that you can talk during sex about how things feel as well.

Find a position you like

There are plenty of ways you can position yourself in. The best one for you is any way that feels great and relaxing, so try different positions and use pillows and blankets for support.

Some ways to scissor that I like include:

  • Both sitting on their butt in front of each other
  • One person lays on their back with their leg up and the other one sits on their knees in front of their partners vulva
  • Both lie on their back
  • One lies on their back, and the other person is the big spoon
  • You’re spooning with the small spoon’s leg up in the air
  • One person is on top

Remember: small changes in how you position yourself can make a big difference in how it feels!

Go slowly

The trick is to find a way to rub the clit that feels amazing. To do this, you must find the right angle, pressure and tempo. The best way of doing so is to go slowly and listen to your body. Take your time and communicate during the session.

It can be easiest to start with one being active and the other one passive!

Lube up!

Friction is one of the things making the rubbing feel so great, but it can also become too much. Adjust the intensity by adding some lube.

Try with clothes, panties and naked

You can drastically change the feeling of scissoring by wearing clothes, only panties or being naked. Start out with what you’re most comfortable with and play around with the different alternatives! (It can be hot to start with pants during the foreplay, and then slowly take things off!).

Remember that not everyone likes it

We’re all familiar with the myth of scissoring being the only way sapphics have sex, but that is far from true. The fact is not everyone enjoys it, so don’t feel pressured to keep scissoring if it’s not for you. You don’t have to like it just because you love women.
