Kristen Stewart, Alia Shawkat, Gillian Anderson and Miriam Margolyes are some of the stars you can look forward to seeing on screens before summer ends

BY NIC CROSARA, IMAGE IS A STILL FROM THE WRONG GIRLS

Attention all lesbian, queer and trans+ screenbuffs! It’s that time of the month when we all get excited about LGBTQIA+ releases coming to cinemas and streaming platforms in the month ahead. You’ll get to see what queer stories and talent you have to look forward to. You definitely want to keep these flicks and shows on your radar.

Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma

From the writer and director of We’re All Going To The World’s Fair and I Saw The TV Glow comes a gripping trans and sapphic slasher. Jane has become renowned for creating horrors that explore transgender identity. At a time when most new releases are reboots or sequels, this latest offering is (bloody) refreshing. You’ll swoon watching Gillian Anderson (Sex Education) and Hannah Einbinder (Hacks) share a screen. Jack Haven (Queens Of The Dead), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Yellowjackets) and Quintessa Swindell (Trinkets) are also part of the queer AF cast.

Coming to UK cinemas 7 August

Love Me Tender

Based on the best-selling novel by Constance Debré, this film offers audiences a heartbreaking story about motherhood and identity. Love Me Tender follows Clémence (Vicky Krieps), who finds herself fighting an unjust system that demands she proves she’s fit to be a mother to her own child, simply due to her queerness. This is a powerful story about a woman’s fight to live life on her terms.

Coming to UK cinemas from 7 August

The Wrong Girls

Love WLW celebrity power couple Kristen Stewart and Dylan Meyer? Then you’ll want to watch this professional collaboration. Kristen stars alongside Alia Shawkat in this brand new stoner comedy, written and directed by Dylan. This comedy follows two aimless young women who inadvertently gain telepathic abilities after ingesting an experimental drug. The cast also features Cate Blanchett, LaKeith Stanfield and Seth Rogan.

Coming to US cinemas from 14 August

Sunny Dancer

Bella Ramsey delivers one of their best performances yet in this coming-of-age comedy-drama. Ivy (Bella) has conquered cancer, but now her parents have signed her up to spend the summer at what she dubs “chemo camp”. Our foul-mouthed protagonist knows all about survival, but can she learn how to really live? If you like feelgood films with lots of heart, you’ll love Sunny Dancer.

Coming to UK cinemas from 14 August

STOP! THAT! TRAIN!

Are you a fan of disaster movie parodies? Then this campy flick is a must-see delight. Its ensemble boasts RuPaul’s Drag Race legends and iconic celebrities. Stop! That! Train! is full of charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent. You’ll want to make sure it’s on your watch list.
