Buckle up sapphics, queer line dancing is taking over the capital! On 4 May, Hackney’s iconic venue The Divine will host a brand new Queer Hoedown, organised by Hoot n’ Holler. Get ready to stomp your boots, meet some new friends and learn how to footloose like a pro.

This event is organised by Ms Jordan Hoot and Miss Alex Holler, two lesbian line dancers who fell in love on the dancefloor in Seattle. After mastering the Boot Scootin’ Boogie, the pair have made it their mission to travel the world and bring queer people together through the medium of dance.

Emma Hill, Head of Hype at Hoot n’ Holler, told DIVA: “As the greats say, save a horse – ride a cowgirl.”

Queer line dancing has taken over London, with gaggles of LGBTQIA+ people coming together to line dance to Chappell Roan and Charli xcx. Hoot n’ Holler wants to continue spreading the queer joy that comes from line dancing to even more queer people.

Alongside being the perfect ground for friendship to brew over an Electric Slide or Cotton Eye Joe, romance could also be waiting in the wings. Jordan and Alex first felt sparks fly in their local bar, Shingletown, in Seattle. The couple spent hours perfecting dances together, using line dancing as an excuse to hang out more and more. Eventually, Alex asked Jordan out with an interpretive line dance set – talk about iconic!

“There is still nothing more attractive than seeing your partner master a dance across a crowded floor,” the pair admit.

So if you’re a line dance pro or a total beginner, head over to The Divine this May to make some memories, friends and pick up a dance or two. In Alex and Jordan’s own words, they’re “bringing a country honky tonk a pop, slutty edge”.

The event will take place on the lower floor of The Divine, starting at 2 pm. Tickets are available here
