Dearest The L Word fans, have you got your passport ready? Kate Moennig and Leisha Hailey will be heading to Spain’s iconic Fulanita Fest on 30 May. Trust us, you don’t want to miss out.

The duo will be signing copies of their memoir So Gay For You and brimming with stories about The L Word and their decades-long friendship.

Fulanita Fest is a five-day festival, bringing together 10,000 LGBTQIA+ people to celebrate LBT women. Located in Southern Spain, Fulanita Fest is a world-leading event for LBT women, featuring live music from Fangoria and Violeta alongside exhibitions, sports and talks. Fulanita Fest will take place this year from 25 – 31 May.

Speaking about attending this year’s Fulanita Fest, Kate told DIVA: “It’s the greatest compliment when the work you’ve done is acknowledged on a global scale.”

Leisha added: “It just goes to show you how the queer experience is so universal.”

After its launch in 2004, The L Word was a runaway success. Running for six seasons, Kate and Leisha, who played the beloved characters Shane and Alice, helped bring LGBTQIA+ representation to screens globally. Since the show, the pair have also hosted their own podcast together, PANTS, and last year they published their joint memoir So Gay For You. Earlier this month, Kate and Leisha announced that their book will be adapted into a series.

When asked about this new series, Leisha kept her cards close. “Stay tuned! We’re very excited to share more when we can,” she told DIVA.

Figures like Kate and Leisha have helped so many feel less isolated, and their new book is just an extension of this powerful work. What do they hope readers take away from So Gay For You? “That they aren’t alone. And hopefully they will feel seen by reading it,” Kate said to DIVA.

Leisha continued: “And that it’s more important than ever to find people you feel safe with, and a community where you can be yourself.”

Events like Fulanita Fest are so desperately needed in these troubling times for LGBTQIA+ rights globally. 2026 marks the fourth year of Fulanita Fest. The addition of Kate and Leisha to the line-up marks one of the most significant international appearances in the festival’s history. The festival will close with a performance by Maruja Limón, with her flamenco and rumba show.
