Christmas, or rather, Queermas, is right around the corner. I can practically smell the mulled wine and taste the festive treats already. If you’re someone whose Xmas break is incomplete without finding the perfect seasonal flick, well, you’re in luck. That is because filmmaker Christin Baker has once again saved the holi-gays by directing another festive sapphic romcom. Ever since she directed Season Of Love back in 2019, Christin has frequently delivered queer romcoms for DIVAs to delight in. Christmas At The Ranch and Merry & Gay are particularly popular releases among our readers. And now, get ready to swoon over a new winter romance in her latest offering, The Christmas Writer.

In the film, we follow Noel (aka THE lesbian Christmas novelist). She’s grieving the loss of her Christmas-obsessed mum, she’s healing from a breakup and she’s got a serious case of writer’s block. She visits her hometown, a quaint small town called Pinewood, in search of new inspiration. But following a meet-cute with Callie, a charming bookstore owner and single mum, she has to decide if she’s ready for her very own epic love story.

And it’s not just the romantic relationship that will warm your heart in this one. I adored Callie’s relationship with her plucky daughter. Noel’s Grandma (who films content of her crafts to eager audiences) is wonderfully wholesome. And Noel’s bestie isn’t afraid to tell it to her straight.

The Christmas Writer delivers lots of lesbian love and plenty of queer cheer. It’s the perfect viewing experience for any DIVA looking to cosy up during the colder season and find a little festive escapism. If you’re a lesbian or queer book lover, who also loves a heartwarming festive romance, this should most certainly be your next watch.

The Christmas Writer is available to rent and buy on tellofilms.com from 18 November. If you love sapphic-centred stories, you’ll love Tello Films. Head over to the website to see Tello’s abundance of WLW-centred stories.
