Football fans, get ready: former Lioness and all-round queer icon Alex Scott will be joining the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here cast this year.
Ant and Dec will be returning to the Australian jungle with a new cohort of terrified celebrities who will all be competing to be crowned King or Queen of the Jungle. Alex will be following in the footsteps of former teammate Jill Scott, who won the show in 2022.
Since retiring from football, Alex has been delighting queer fans both on and off the pitch. The football icon showed support for the LGBTQIA+ community during the 2022 Qatar World Cup which had banned the OneLove armband. In a courageous move, Alex wore the rainbow armband on camera. Alongside her advocacy, her relationship with Jess Glynne has sent sapphics into a frenzy.
Alex will be joining celebs like rapper Aitch and Ruby Wax OBE to star in the show’s 25th season. The broadcaster told ITV that she’s actually pretty shy, and hopes her introvertedness won’t get the better of her.
Speaking to ITV about how Jess is going to take the separation, she said: “Jess thinks I am absolutely mental! But she will be my biggest supporter, and my mum absolutely loves the show. Thinking of her tuning in every night will bring a tear.”
I’m A Celeb has notoriously challenged celebs to face their biggest fears. What could Alex be up against? She’s already admitted to ITV that she’s pretty scared of heights but she’s ready to conquer that. “I don’t want to let my team mates down. I don’t want to make myself look stupid, even if I do have fears. I will just throw myself into it.”
And what about having to eat rice and beans day after day? “With my Jamaican background, it’s all about the chicken and rice. If I come out of the jungle never wanting to eat rice again, I’m going to be devastated!” she told ITV.
I’m A Celebrity starts Sunday at 9 pm on ITV1, ITVX, STV & STV Player.
