Queer musician and all-around icon Reneé Rapp’s recent Bite Me tour has quickly become an internet sensation. Fans have praised her for her out-of-this-world vocals, questioned her outfit choices, and formed a frenzy over the array of special guests that have appeared at different stops on the tour so far.
This weekend was no different, with DIVA’s favourite LGBTIA+ ally Jennifer Beals starring in one of Reneé’s songs.
Throughout the tour, Reneé has called on a guest or fan to join her during a song from her latest album, titled At Least I’m Hot. In this piece, Reneé and her girlfriend Towa Bird have a conversational exchange.
When Towa asks how Reneé is doing, she responds that she’s been “Doing real bad.” Towa then replies, “Damn, but you look so fit”, to which Reneé says, “Well, I can guarantee that.”
So far, Reneé has called up audience members, celebrity counterparts, and even Towa herself to participate in this part of the song. The past weekend’s show in San Diego saw actress Jennifer Beals stepping up to do Towa’s part.
For fans who recognised Jennifer from her iconic performance in the 2000s hit show The L Word, this was a monumental occasion. Squeals from the crowd and Reneé herself affirmed that Jennifer’s legacy as a sapphic icon lives on. Jennifer appeared to love the moment, dancing along to the song after saying her lines.
The pair then treated fans to a lip-synced dance to At Least I’m Hot on TikTok. Comments demonstrated the internet’s excitement at the collab, as well as calls for The L Word to make a comeback in current media.
