It doesn’t get much gayer than two lesbians in a sports car

Double denim. Snogging. A whole lot of dyke rings. This is, of course, the new music video for CATTY’s sapphic soundtrack of the summer, Joyride. In case you didn’t think it could get any gayer, it stars CATTY’s girlfriend and I Kissed A Girl icon Amy Spalding.
After a dizzying rise into the music scene in 2024, CATTY has been dubbed the sapphic star to watch. Following her EP last year, Healing Out Of Spite, CATTY has quickly become one of the most exciting new artists to follow. This new track is a celebration of lesbian love and visibility, with a chorus that is going to be blasting through your speakers all summer.
Speaking about Joyride, CATTY said: “I don’t think I would have kissed any of those boys if I grew up with positive queer media. There was either no gay people in the programme or the plot would get good and the gays would get buried.”
She added: “It’s important that those stories are told but we need queer joy too, my experience of being in love with a woman has been full of it. We are inherently protective and empathetic and loving and there aren’t many things more powerful than two women with the same goal.”
Speaking about her relationship with Amy, CATTY revealed that she was “completely enamoured” with her after seeing Amy in a smoking area of a show.
Taking inspiration from the classic film Thelma & Louise, which is often read as having queer undertones, Amy spoke about the creative process behind the music video. “When Catty first sent me Joyride the first image that jumped into my head was Thelma & Louise with a sapphic twist,” Amy said. “Selfishly I really just wanted to make out with CATTY in a vintage sports car.”
There is possibly nothing queerer than a song all about not quite knowing where you stand with someone, but still wanting to go along for the thrill anyway. Oh, and when you throw in two lesbians making out in a sports car, it’s pretty much perfect.
You can listen to Joyride now.
