When K.Flay – known to her friends and family as Kristine Meredith Flaherty – was told that she had gone completely deaf in her right ear, most people assumed that she would leave the studio behind for good. Instead, she picked up a pen and wrote her latest album, MONO.

MONO is undeniably an angry record. The tracks reveal intimate details of Kristine’s life, from sobriety to loneliness. But there is also a sense of healing in this album.

“Making this record healed me emotionally and spiritually” – K.Flay

“My queerness has been manifested in my reluctance to be put inside a box” – K.Flay

In this exclusive DIVA interview, Kristine opens up about how losing her hearing gave her a chance to make the music that she wanted to. And she talks about her relationship with her girlfriend, Sara Keden – and yes, they did work together on tracks like Spaghetti, what a power couple!
