Contestants Kassy and Johnnie shared a sapphic kiss on the show

Every day we inch one step closer to a completely bi Love Island series. After the success of queer dating shows like Netflix’s The Ultimatum and BBC’s I Kissed A Boy, we practically squealed in delight when we saw that Love Island USA – the epitome of a heteronormative dating show – has had a bisexual storyline.
For those who aren’t watching, contestant Johnnie Garcia came out on the show as bisexual and began a romance with her co-star Kassy Castillo! Our sapphic hearts were jumping with joy.
“I obviously find you attractive, obviously,” Kassy said to Johnnie, “I just didn’t know if you felt the attraction too and stuff. So I just wanted to see if you’re seeing that, I don’t know.”
“Bitch, I’ve been seeing it!” Johnnie replied, “What do you mean?
“Okay, I just wanted to know, like, we joke around and stuff, but like, I didn’t know if it’s really joking or not,” Kassy continued.
“I’m not joking,” Johnnie replied.
The pair continued to share how they had been pining after each other before sharing a steamy smooch.
For fans of the UK Love Island, we know that we’ve seen this story before when Sophie Gradon and Katie Salmon coupled up in season two. But we’re hoping that Kassy and Johnnie don’t receive the same fetishization that Sophie and Katie did when they were on the show.
However, with fans theorising that Kassy may be leaning more towards another contestant called Leo, we’re not sure how long our sapphic Love Island dreams will last…
