The new project wants as many LGBTQIA people and allies to share videos explaining their favourite Pride songs

Pride Classical, an organisation committed to commemorating LGBTQIA history and culture through the medium of music, is thrilled to introduce its latest venture “My Pride Song.”

This endeavour is a tribute to Pride and allyship, and is inviting LGBTQIA community members and allies to participate by sharing their chosen song, its personal significance, and why the music of Pride matters to them.

The initiative boasts an impressive lineup of contributors, including renowned figures like actress and activist Dame Joanna Lumley, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK winner Danny Beard, acclaimed actress and activist Julie Hesmondhalgh, music teacher and Pride Classical collaborator Keith Doran, Coronation Street actress Dolly-Rose Campbell, comedian Jason Manford, global cabaret sensation Alison Jiear, and Olivier award-winning actor Matt Henry MBE.

Dame Joanna Lumley, a proud LGBTQIA ally, shared her thoughts on her favourite Pride song: “My all-time favourite Pride song is I Am What I Am (by Gloria Gaynor), I just think it’s enchanting because it’s what I believe about everybody, we are just people, all of us across the world, and I love people being proud in exactly what they are!”

To take part in My Pride Song participants can submit a portrait video via the official Pride Classical website, the Storiboard app, or even record it live at the Manchester Central Library. The videos will be showcased on Pride Classical’s social media platforms and other media outlets.

Rachel Whibley, co-founder of Carrot Productions, expressed the intent behind My Pride Song saying: “It invites you to showcase the songs and stories that matter most to you.”
