Alice Oseman and the actors from everyone’s favourite queer Netflix show talk exclusively to DIVA

INTERVIEW BY NIC CROSARA, IMAGE BY NETFLIX

When the first season of Heartstopper came out in 2022, we loved every second of it. Through the heartache, love, pining, pain, joy and laughter of it all, we couldn’t tear ourselves away from our screens. If our reaction to season one is anything to go by, the second season (which is largely set in Paris) is going to be an emotional rollercoaster. For our August/September issue, we sat down with Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Yasmin Finney and Alice Oseman to talk about the upcoming season.

Corinna on what she hopes parents take away from Heartstopper…

“Listen to your children. Listen to the young people that you’re bringing up and have their own thoughts, ideas and feelings”

Kizzy on filming in Paris…

“There were some young fans that gave us Eiffel Tower keychains. And they were like, ‘I can’t believe you’re in Paris’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, me neither!’”

Yasmin on trans joy…

“I can’t lie to you, I did manifest this life. I manifested everything, manifested my dog, manifested my house, manifested my career. Everything I have worked for, of course, but I did have this vision a long time ago.”

Alice on writing aro-ace representation…

“The journey towards figuring out that you are ace and/or aro is rarely seen in any media, but especially screen. I wanted to show that journey and all the self-doubt and confusion and messiness that comes with it.”
