The lesbian singer-songwriter opens up about her journey so far

INTERVIEW BY NIC CROSARA, IMAGE BY ADAM BRAZIER

Lucy Spraggan’s journey is one that you might have heard about by now — she made her start on The X Factor but she had to leave the show before her time due to health issues. She is a wildly successful British singer-songwriter that has consistently released brilliant tracks for her audience (largely made up of LGBTQIA people) to enjoy. She has six studio albums under her belt, and Balance, coming out on 11 August will be her seventh. Now the time has come to hear Lucy’s story in her own words as she will be releasing a memoir on 20 July.

Just in case you wanted a refresher on Lucy’s talent, here is the music video for her latest single, Empire:

Lucy on…

Her upcoming memoir

“You have to be able to have a conversation with yourself to write any literature, to be honest. I journal every morning when I wake up.”

Being four years sober

“To be on the road and to look out and see everybody and feel like I’m really here and I’m really present, it’s unrivalled.”

Embracing authenticity

“I’ve been really vocal about being my authentic self. And so whatever that looks like on somebody, that’s just you being your authentic self. So we’re getting a lot more authentic selves coming to the show, and I adore that.”
