“So who you scared of now?” sings Dakota Jones’ Tristan Carter Jones in the band’s latest single, Scared. The song has been released alongside a powerfully stripped back new music video, and it will be part of the band’s upcoming album, Heartbreakers Space Club. This promising sophomore album is set to be released on 2 June.

Dakota Jones have been making impactful music for nearly eight years. Comprised of lead singer Tristan, bassist Scott Jet Kramp, drummer Steve Ross and guitarist Eddy Marshall, they’ve attempted to hark back to the classics with their uniquely soulful yet modern sound.

Scared feels distinctly futuristic as it specifically explores a lack of trust in a relationship. This universal theme is exemplified by the track’s minimalistic video and emphasis on Tristan’s raw vocals. It’s a reminder of what Dakota Jones do best – bring Black, queer voices to the fore. The song continues to candidly address the band’s aim of speaking openly about mental health issues, especially amongst the LGBTQIA community.

Speaking about Heartbreakers Space Club, Tristan noted that the album’s title inferred “doubling as both something celestial and a place that you hold for yourself, is where you lose yourself to find yourself, break yourself down to build back up into the most authentic version of you.” It’s this authenticity that makes Dakota Jones’ music so accessible and engaging. It seems that this latest single, and new album, will continue transporting listeners to this fascinating celestial realm.
