The Sex Lives Of College Girls was released in 2021 and has since captured the attention of the LGBTQIA community. This is largely because of its complex representation of lesbians and lesbian relationships, as well as the beautiful way that show creators Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble present friendships between women. For our January issue of DIVA magazine, we interviewed the four leading actors, Reneé Rapp, Alyah Chanelle Scott, Amrit Kaur, and Pauline Chalamet. Here’s a teaser for you…

Alyah on Black female friendship…

“Growing up I loved the shows that had the two Black girlies being besties. That was what I always connected to and so I’m grateful to be that version of that.”

Renee on intimacy between women on TV…

“It’s really great that you see two gay women just doing their thing and being intimate with each other and not in a way that feels hypersexualised or for someone else’s benefit.”

Pauline on solidarity between the four…

“There’s a lot of material to play with in terms of exploring their differences and the things that unite them.”

Amrit on playing Bela…

“I think if someone asked her what her sexuality or gender was she just wants to do what she does without having to be put in a box. That’s very exciting for our generation to see.”
