A love triangle, a free-spirited, charming protagonist and a WLW romance. What more could you want?

French film Anaïs In Love hits UK cinemas today, taking us on a fast-paced adventure as charming main character Anaïs (Anaïs Demoustier) gets caught up in an unconventional love triangle. The lively French comedy does wonders for presenting the complexities of relationships in a quirky and comedic manner and provides some strong WLW representation.

Anaïs is a 30-year-old woman, she’s an impulsive, free-spirited tornado and already a Team DIVA favourite. Anaïs has a lover that she doesn’t love anymore. She meets Daniel (Denis Podalydès), an older man who immediately falls for her, yet Anaïs’s curiosity is sparked when she meets Daniel’s girlfriend, novelist Emilie (Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi). A complex love triangle emerges, in a whirlwind plot that’s set to be anything but dull.

The scene above is one of our favourites here at DIVA. Viewers see a determined Anaïs drive past Emilie and persuades her to join her for a swim in the lake. She declares that “this [moment with Emilie] could change my life”. Her determination is unmatched and it’s enticing as hell.

The film is an impressive debut from writer and director Charline Bourgeois-Tacquetl. The locations include Paris and Brittany, with some really beautiful cinematography to match the story.

It’s great to see sapphic representation in cinema – even more so in comedy, and we’re certain it’s going to be a DIVA favourite.

Anaïs in Love is in Cinemas and on demand from today.
