Eight girls and eight boys stranded on an island, what could go wrong?

I’ve just seen the official trailer for The Wilds season two, and I’m screaming about as much as the girls are (albeit for very different reasons). It looks like the show is going to get wilder with even higher stakes. But before we dive in, major spoilers for the first season lay ahead. You’ve been warned.
So if you’re like me, you put off watching The Wilds, thinking maybe this wasn’t for you. But oh boy, were you wrong. Fast forward to the next day and you’ve marathoned your way through to the finale desperate for another season and to find out what happens to these girls.
The show follows a group of teenage girls from drastically different backgrounds who, following a plane crash, find themselves stranded on a remote island. They are completely unaware (at least the majority are) that the accident was staged and they are subjects in an elaborate social experiment. Oh and to shake things up, the second season is set to introduce a group of boys to the mix. What could go wrong?
Alright there’s a lot to unpack here, but let’s start with Shoni (Shelby and Toni). It looks like Martha (Toni’s BFF) spots a make out sesh between the secret couple. And do I sense jealousy? Or at least mixed feelings? In another snippet, Martha is seen asking “have you noticed any new vibes between some of the people here?”
This will be interesting to explore as in the first season, Toni was the one who got frustrated watching how close Martha was getting to Shelby. All the characters went through incredible arcs, but Shoni was certainly unexpected. Whenever they were within a metre of each other, it usually ended in an argument. Talk about enemies to lovers. Now that Shelby seems to have freed herself from living up to expectations placed on her, it will be interesting to see how she navigates survival differently.
Okay, let’s talk about the boys. So turns out there were two staged plane crashes and two islands. In an interview with the secret organisation, one of the guys can be seen saying “some of us were becoming monsters”. The trailer makes it look like the two groups will cross paths and things will get stressful.
With so many questions that need answers, thank God we have Leah. Whilst her paranoia can make her an unreliable source, she’s gotten to the bottom of many mysteries so far on the show. From Nora being in on the whole thing to finding the tapes of the group of boys AKA “The Twilight Of Adam”. In every shot in the trailer, she looks so done with everything. The trailer ends with Leah sneaking up on a boy in the dark, clamping her hand over his mouth and whispering “Don’t. Scream.” One thing is for sure, don’t mess with Leah.
