The Canadian actor Elliot Page is returning to the big screen soon in his first feature film in six years! The Umbrella Academy star is playing the character of Sam in Dominic Savage’s film Close To You which follows the story of a trans man reconnecting with a former flame (Hillary Baack).

The film opens with a shirtless shot of Elliot looking out of a window. For many this scene wouldn’t hold much significance. But for Elliot, who came out as trans in 2020, this moment was unforgettable.

He told Entertainment Weekly“Shooting on the day, I was getting out of bed and getting dressed, it was sort of clumsy, like, ‘Oh, it would be great, he sleeps shirtless.’ In the moment when you’re making this, you’re making it from this instinctual place that I don’t know how to describe. It just sort of happens, but at the same time, it just felt natural.”

“Showing this dude who’s comfortable and present and waking up in his body, that means a lot to me,” he continued. “I never thought I’d feel that way, so it’s nice to get to act it.”

Elliot further went on to call the experience “liberating” and a highlight of his career. In his hotly anticipated memoir Pageboy, Elliot described how working on sets before his transition had been so stressful it had resulted in him developing shingles. However, Close To You is marking a significant change in his career path.

“When I was the most uncomfortable, those [past] performances, you’re a little more stiff, you’re less loose,” he explained. “There’s less ability to kind of go with the flow in the present moment.”

Close To You currently does not have an official release date.
