Who Are You? sees a more gritty return to CATBEAR’s indie roots, keeping their signature synth sound

CATBEAR are back with their third single of 2020 – Who Are You? It sees the talented pair – Zoe Konez and Sarah Smith – return to the grittier indie roots of their earlier music, whilst still retaining their signature 80s retro synth sound.

CATBEAR have become known for their impassioned and playful attitude and this song is no exception. This is a bold, flirtatious song that’ll leave you with a smile on your face.

The new track is about the intensity of that first flash of overwhelming lust when you’re falling deep for someone and it’s a more intense attraction than you’ve ever had before. We’ve all been there – when you had no idea desire could feel so strong and it’s intoxicating.

Catchy lines like “Lust is not a feeling it’s a monster and it’s taking hold, Just a taste you feed me and I’m obsessed, I’m out of control” will be stuck in your head long after your first listen.

Written, recorded and produced by Zoe in her home studio during lockdown, whilst Sarah was busy working in A&E for the NHS, the creation of the song gave CATBEAR an escape from the daily challenges of front-line working. The power of music for wellbeing is something Zoe knows only too well as she runs a music programme in a mental health hospital.

Zoe said of the new release: “This was so much fun to write. I came up with the first half of the song on a train during my commute on one of the last days before lockdown and we developed it during those first few long weeks of quarantine where making music kept us going.”
