NOHEARTBREAK2020 offers four relatable tracks, all about navigating your 20s as a queer woman
BY SOPHIE GRIFFITHS
Everyone loves an exclusive, right? Especially when it’s a brand-new EP from an up and coming queer artist.
NOHEARTBREAK2020 is the latest EP from Los Angeles based artist, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Lani Renaldo. Constantly trying to evolve and understand her emotions, Lani uses music to be the outlet in which she expresses her discoveries.
The four-track release is an exploration of being in your 20s and touches on women and sexuality, emphasising the significance of being comfortable with who you are, whatever that may be.
It was written with the intention of being utterly relatable, and we can confirm, it’s exactly that. Entirely produced, written and performed by Lani herself, the EP is about accepting where you are in the moment and not being so hard on yourself. There are emotional lyrical moments balanced out with uplifting guitar riffs, encouraging you to be yourself and to always be truthful.
Lani’s passion and talent for songwriting began early on when she was one of six songwriters chosen to attend GRAMMY Camp at Converse Rubber Tracks in 2012. She then went on to study at USC’s Thornton School of Music, which further catapulted her musical education and career.
She’s gone on to perform with the likes of Alessia Cara at the AMA’s and open for fellow queer icon, Halsey, at The Shrine.
Speaking of the EP, Lani said: “NOHEARTBREAK2020 is a project I poured my heart into. I tried to be as brutally honest, with myself and listeners, as I could. I think this is the first EP where I’ve openly talked about my sexuality and specifically used female pronouns to describe love interests in songs. I’ve embraced the part of myself that I was made to feel ashamed of and hope that listeners find comfort in being true to themselves, just like I have done. I’m so happy it’s yours now and can’t wait to show you all what’s next.”
