We couldn’t have been more excited when we found out just last month that lesbian athlete Nicola Adams would be making history as one half of the first ever same-sex pairing to take to the Strictly dance floor.
The BBC show is set to return 17 October and the allocated pairings have not yet been revealed. However, as preparations have begun to film the show, Nicola was pictured leaving the studio yesterday morning (6 October) with Katya Jones.
Upon joining the show, Nicola Adams told Strictly producers that dancing as part of a same-sex pairing was “non-negotiable” for her, stating: “They wanted to know if I wanted to be on the show and I said, ‘Yeah I’ll do it, but I want to dance with another female’.
“It’s really important. It’s a big step for the show as well. It’s nice to see we’re able to move on. I can’t wait to get some dancing done.”
Ballroom pro Katya, previously admitted that she would “love” to be a part of the historic show’s first same-sex pairing.
Upon the announcement that Nicola would be joining the line-up, Katya immediately expressed her interest in being paired up with the Olympic boxer.
A source explained: “Katya has been telling everyone on the show how keen she is to be paired with Nicola.
“She’s a huge believer in girl power and thinks they’d make a great team and be a hit with the viewers at home.”
We don’t disagree, and it seems like Katya got what she wanted! Who else can’t wait to see the pair take to the dance floor later this month?
