British drama studio Lookout Point TV has today, 20 March 2020, announced that the second series of the much beloved series Gentleman Jack will be delayed as the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve.

Sharing the news on Twitter, Lookout Point TV wrote: “Reluctantly we have decided to delay the start of production of Gentleman Jack series 2 due to the ongoing COVID-19 emergency.

“Huge thanks to our cast and crew, and to our incredible, inspiring fans for their understanding.

“Sending everyone a bit of Anne Lister strength and energy at this difficult time.

“And remember that: ‘Anne did not like dirty hands on anyone.’ (Quote from Gentleman Jack: The Real Anne Lister. By Sally Wainwright, Anne Choma).”

The news comes after Gentleman Jack won the Royal Television Society award for Best Drama Series, with judges describing the hit BBC programme as “sharply written” with “compelling characters”.

Thankfully, the team were able to celebrate the win remotely:

Though many fans will be saddened by the news, don’t despair! The wonderful actor and LGBTQI+ ally Suranne Jones, who plays Anne Lister, has a message to share directly with you – DIVA readers and Jack The Lasses:

Best wishes to Suranne and all of the team – we’ll be waiting (impatiently) to find out when production can resume. Until then, virtual group rewatch of series one, anyone? #GentlemanJack #DIVACommunity
