Chris, aka Christine And The Queens, has taken her own self-proclaimed genre “freak-pop” to the next level: with six emotion-filled songs.
A Prospect For A New Life: the title itself is indicative of the vulnerability explored throughout the album. Each song holds close to Chris’s “sound” but creates a very different atmosphere. Some songs are slow and the vocals haunting – others fast and exciting.
What makes the project even more unique is the 14-minute film of the same name. Starred in and written by Chris, the film journeys through the album, telling a story which is in equal parts scary and sexy. (By which we mean Chris herself, who makes an incredibly enticing androgenous-80s-glamourous-vampire-chic figure). Seriously, she looks incredible.
Choreographed by Ryan Heffington, the film is set in the Opera Garnier and takes advantage of its classic beauty, contrasting with heavy synths, psychedelic colours and strobe lights as the dancer’s grab, kiss and pull at Chris.

After being sucked into a world of emotion, of extreme joy and lust, of sadness and struggle, perhaps, what’s most revealing is the film’s darker side. The final choreographed scene drawing on the classic combination explored by stories like Dracula: the parasitic and the irresistible…
Produced by Christine And The Queens/Ash Workman, the EP is out now on all digital platforms via Because Music, and is available to pre-order on CD and vinyl editions (release date: 10 April 2020).
