This year’s annual observation of Lesbian Visibility Week (22-28 April) has been the biggest and best yet. It’s been great to see so many lesbians, LGBTQIA women and non-binary people getting involved. And today, UK Black Pride (UKBP) – the world’s largest celebration for LGBTQIA people of African, Asian, Caribbean, Latin American and Middle Eastern descent – released The Black Lesbian Power List which shines a much-needed spotlight on Black lesbians. Team DIVA are so happy to support this list for Lesbian Visibility Week.

The list features names such as Adele Roberts, Moud Goba and Femi Otitoju. The contributions that these change makers have made to the LGBTQIA community are certainly deserving of recognition and celebration.

In the introduction UK Black Pride CEO Phyll Opoku-Gyimah writes: “… That desire to be seen, when the world tries so hard to make Black LGBTQIA+ people invisible, still burns bright within me. That’s why it’s so important to turn the spotlight on the Black lesbians who exemplify leadership, positive influence and support within our communities.
UK Black Pride’s We Will Be Heard survey found that 82% of LGBTQIA people of colour don’t feel represented by queer media. UK Black Pride is working with DIVA to change that.
Thank you to everyone who nominated an inspirational Black lesbian. This groundbreaking list ensures that our amazing community is seen in all its Diversity this Lesbian Visibility Week.”

UK Black Pride’s annual protest and celebration will be returning to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for the third time. It will be taking place on 11 August 2024 and this year’s theme is Freedom & Justice.

Phyll has said, “it is with such joy that we can announce our return to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for the third year running. It is slowly becoming a great home for our event as we grow bigger and bigger. As we reflect on previous years, we are planning to make this the biggest and the boldest UK Black Pride yet.”
