Don One’s Time Travelling Queers is ready to take you back in time

Looking to learn more about queer history? Unsure where to start? Well, you’re in luck. Drag king extraordinaire Don One has launched a new podcast all about uncovering queerstory.
Entitled Time Travelling Queers, this podcast will bring together LGBTQIA+ icons like Tia Kofi, Rosie Jones and Dani St James with historians to unravel the stories of our queer ancestors. Dive into the world of Harlem Renaissance icon and performer Gladys Bentley. Learn more about the gender-blurring 17th-century ruler of Ndongo and Matamba, Njinga a Mbande. From episodes about famous monarchs to lesbian princesses, there’s something in this podcast for everyone.
Speaking to DIVA about this new podcast, Don One said: “It’s essential because queer history has been forgotten, and it feels like a travesty. For us as a podcast to be able to celebrate their existence and bring knowledge of these historical figures to newer generations feels really important. More than ever, it’s essential to highlight people that have been forgotten.”
Each episode takes place in Don One’s iconic time-travelling taxi cab that will take the guests back in time. It’s funny, it’s informative and it’s heartfelt.
“This podcast is giving a history lesson to young people that might have never heard of any kind of queer figures. It could change everything because it’s aspirational. Everybody’s existence should be a celebration. It should act as a beacon of hope to young people,” Don One adds.
Don One is one of the most well-known drag kings in the UK, having appeared on shows like Late Night Lycett and also performing on London’s West End. Time Travelling Queers is a new launch by queer-led creative platform and production company Molly House Media.
