Charlotte Emma Aitchison, known professionally as Charli xcx, is a British singer-songwriter. As well as being deservedly acknowledged as a pop innovator, she’s also begun to take on more acting roles. Whether you’re here because you’ve turned to Google after trying to find out who the artist is and what exactly “brat summer” means, or you want to learn more about her exciting past and upcoming projects, you’ve come to the right place. So, without further ado, let’s dive in…
What are some of her career highlights as a musician?
The Apple singer has a very impressive resume. The 33-year-old musician has six studio albums and one remix album under her belt. She’s sold out venues around the world and last year, her hugely popular album, Brat, was awarded Best Dance/Electronic Album at the Grammys. In the same year, she took home the MTV Music Video Award for Best Video for Good, a Brit Award for Song Of The Year, and a Brit Award for British Album of the Year. This is just naming a few of her awards and accolades.
Charli’s love of both music and film can be seen in the number of projects the multitalented artist takes on that embrace both. She was one of the many artists chosen to create songs specifically for the soundtrack for the 2023 Barbie movie. Her contribution to the soundtrack is Speed Drive. She also collaborated with Leo Birenberg to create the soundtrack for the horny lesbian high school film Bottoms.
As we approach February, we are looking forward to her upcoming Wuthering Heights soundtrack album scheduled for release on 13 February. And coming in April, the highly anticipated film Mother Mary (starring Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel) will feature music written and produced by Charli xcx and Jack Antonoff.
What does “Brat” mean?
Charli’s album, Brat, became a cultural phenomenon during Summer 2024, which was referred to by the masses as “Brat summer”. People started wearing lime-green and embracing a messy, carefree and confident attitude. Did you know that Brat was crowned Collins Dictionary 2024 word of the year? Over on TikTok, the musician confirmed her definition of the word Brat.

Is Charli xcx queer?
While Charli xcx has garnered a huge following of LGBTQIA+ fans, and embraces them with open arms, the Vroom Vroom singer is heterosexual. She has, on multiple occasions, acknowledged that she “would be nothing” without the support of her queer fans. She regularly collaborates with queer artists such as Troye Sivan, Billie Eilish, Sam Smith, Clario, Kim Petras, and many more. She’s also repeatedly used her platform to speak up for LGBTQIA+ rights.
Who is the pop star dating?
Charli is officially married to The 1975 drummer and producer, George Daniel. The two had an iconic low-key ceremony at Hackney Town Hall last summer.
What is her star sign?
She was born on 2 August 1992, which makes her a Leo.
What are her acting credits?
While many fans will know that Charli has started appearing in more films, they might be surprised to know just how many acting credits she has on her CV. She’s, of course, acted in many music videos, including her own and as well as other musicians. And we loved her documentary Alone Together. But let’s take a closer look at some roles you probably didn’t know about…
She lent her voice acting chops to The Angry Birds Movie (2016) and Uglydolls (2019). In 2022, she also appeared as herself in the Gossip Girl reboot.
We loved getting to see her in the queer AF show, Overcompensating, last year. UK fans will finally be able to see her performance as Rosa in the film 100 Nights Of Hero, which is getting its UK release in February. And if you want to see the cultural phenomenon that is Brat explored further, you’ll definitely want to see her mockumentary, The Moment, which also stars Rachel Sennott and Alexander Skarsgård. The Moment is releasing in the US on 30 January and in the UK on 20 February.
