Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis are now married

Football fans everywhere have been going wild over this pair

The New Year’s Eve marriage between the Matildas captain, Sam Kerr, and former West Ham midfielder, Kristie Mewis, has restored our faith in love for 2026.

The couple tied the knot in a gorgeous ceremony at the Villa Dionysus estate in the Swan Valley, near Sam’s hometown, Perth.

Photos and videos shared since the ceremony have brought the special day to life for fans, and it certainly looks like one for the Pinterest boards!

The couple told Vogue Australia they wanted the wedding to be “simple and chic”. They added: “We wanted it to feel warm and fun with lots of good food and comfort. Oh, and it’s New Year’s Eve, so we wanted it to be a great party.”

One hundred and twenty guests were in attendance at the Venetian manor, and they followed an all-black dress code. Kristie’s sheer beaded wedding gown, draped over a white corset, was a standout. The dress was designed by Berta, and Kristie described it as her “dream dress”.

Sam, meanwhile, was dapper in a black tuxedo from Hugo Boss adorned with a white boutonniere. One photo saw Sam lifting Kristie above her shoulders in her reception dress as the pair got ready to dance the night away with their nearest and dearest.

The reception featured a saxophone performance from Tom Greble, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

In a touching moment, Sam’s dad walked both her and her son, Jagger, down the aisle. Speaking last month on the Mewis Squared podcast, which she hosts with her sister, Kristie anticipated the moment would be particularly emotional. “I will sob when that happens,” she said.

Snaps of Sam’s teammates enjoying the festivities have circled the internet, including Steph Catley, Caitlin Foord, Emily Van Egmond, Alanna Kennedy, and Mackenzie Arnold.

Catley also posted several pictures of the group to her Instagram account, along with the caption: “Sam & Kristie” with a white heart emoji.

Sam and Kristie’s love story began back in 2019 after Mewis slid into the DMs – talk about shooting your shot! Of course a global pandemic then hit, meaning the pair didn’t meet in person for several months, allowing for some serious sapphic yearning in the meantime. 

Then, 2021 saw the footballers compete for rival teams at the Tokyo Olympics. Before there was Heated Rivalry’s Shane and Ilya, there was Sam and Kristie. 

The couple went public with their relationship in 2021 and announced their engagement in 2023. Sam and Kristie welcomed their baby boy, Jagger, in May 2025.
