Let’s see what these actors have been up to since saying goodbye to the show

Back in 1992, Penny Marshall’s film A League Of Their Own (ALOTO) was released and became a beloved classic for many. It garnered a huge following from the LGBTQIA community, despite not portraying queerness in an overt way.

Thirty years later, Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham created an apologetically queer TV show that reimagined the world of ALOTO. It was a huge success and received praise for how it portrayed sexuality, gender and race. Despite being renewed for a second season, fans were left devastated when Amazon cancelled the highly anticipated second instalment.

While we may not be getting reunited with our favourite characters, the cast are still getting up to great stuff. Let’s check in to see what some of our faves have been up to and where we might be able to see them next…

Abbi Jacobson (Carson Shaw)

As well as co-creating the show the Broad City star also took on the role of Carson. With so many coming out stories that we see today focusing on LGBTQIA teens and young adults, it was refreshing to see Carson’s “late bloomer” story.

Since hanging up her Peaches uniform, we’ve heard Carson voice Kelly Pritzker in Disenchantment. She also appeared in the short film Officer Stanley as Paramedic W. Rist. She’s also set to appear as Leslie Fisher in an upcoming TV series called No Good Deed which is currently in production.

Chanté Adams (Max Chapman)

Max Chapman was my personal favourite character. It felt so rare and radical to be served up a Black queer character with this level of depth. While her sexuality was represented in the story, it was not the focus of her arc or of her mission. We need more characters like Max on our screens and it’s truly devastating that we won’t be getting to see more of her.

If you want to see more of Chanté, look out for A Man In Full, a 2024 Mini Series where she plays Jill Hensley. Chanté’s portrayal of Max so full of heart. I can’t wait to see what projects she has coming up in the future.

D’Arcy Carden (Greta Gill)

It was great to see The Good Place star take on the role of Carson’s love interest, the wonderfully femme Greta Gill.

Since leaving the show she’s amassed a range of acting credits. She’s voiced characters in American Dad, Strange Planet, Krapopolis and Clone High. She also was cast as Harriet in Shotgun Wedding and Skunk in the 2024 film The Gutter. Fans can also see her take on role in upcoming projects: Rhona Who Lives By The River, Sketch and She Taught Love which are all in post-production at the time of writing.

Roberta Colindrez (Lupe García)

Fans all over the globe swooned over this certified heartthrob’s portrayal of Lupe García. Since saying goodbye to the show we’ve seen her take on the role of Sabrina in Cassandro and we’ll get to see her take on the role of Ronnie in an upcoming TV mini series titled Eric. We could never get enough of Roberta on our screens!

Kelly McCormack (Jess McCready)

Kelly is another actor that made us swoon with her captivating portrayal as the straight-talking Jess McCready. Since saying farewell to the show, she has appeared in the TV series George And Tammy as Sheila Richey, as Sharon in the 2023 film Problemista and as Betty-Anne in the TV series Letterkenny. She’s also set to appear as Stacy in A Simple Favour Sequel which is in production at the time of writing.

Gbemisola Ikumelo (Clance Morgan)

The relationship I was arguably most invested in on ALOTO was the platonic one of BFFs Clance and Max. Gbemisola’s portrayal of the character was full of life. Her arc ended on such a cliffhanger it’s tragic that we won’t get to see what was next for her.

She appeared as Dom in six episodes of the Black Ops TV series and we are hoping to see her cast in lots more projects soon.

Melanie Field (Jo De Luca)

Melanie portrayed butch babe Jo De Luca who was a pivotal character for many of the most moving scenes within the series.

Last year, we saw Melanie in three episodes of the TV series Killing It and we look forward to seeing her take on roles in her upcoming projects: Home Delivery, Influential and The Answers.

Lea Robinson (Uncle Bertie)

I still think about Lea Robinson’s moving portrayal of Max’s Uncle Bertie most days. It was so impactful to see a Black trans character before the word existing on their own terms before the label “trans” was even commonly known or used.

ALOTO was not Lea’s first rodeo when it came to being cast in a show with stunning QTIPOC representation. She appeared in two episodes of Lena Waithe’s groundbreaking show Twenties. Casting directors need to cast Lea into more upcoming projects stat. They are a phenomenal actor.

Rosie O’Donnell (Vi)

While Rosie O’Donnell only appeared as a guest star, her cameo was a truly moving one. It was made even more impactful by the fact she was part of the cast of the original 1992 film. It was great to see her in all her butchness in Abbi and Will’s reimagining of ALOTO.

We’ve recently taken a look at what the star has been up to, when we checked in on the cast of The L Word: Generation Q. Since then, it’s been announced that we can look forward to seeing Rosie taking on a role in the upcoming season of the Sex And The City spin-off And Just Like That.
