
The Matildas captain has been accused of using threatening words during an incident involving a taxi fare

Chelsea striker and Matildas captain Sam Kerr has pleaded not guilty after she was charged with racially aggravated harassment of a London police officer. The football star has been accused of using insulting, threatening or abusive words that caused alarm or distress to a police officer in January 2023.
Sam was charged on 21 January but denied the charge during her hearing at Kingston upon Thames Crown Court on Monday (4 March). A four-day trial is expected to take place in Wimbledon Magistratesā Court in February 2025.Ā
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “The charge relates to an incident involving a police officer who was responding to a complaint involving a taxi fare on 30 January 2023 in Twickenham.ā
Football Australia chief executive James Johnson spoke to the press in Adelaide, stating: āThere is no place for racism in our sport. At the same time Sam has rights, natural justice rights, procedural rights that she has to work through and we will respect that.”
The striker is currently sidelined after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury. She has scored 99 goals in 128 matches since joining Chelsea in 2019.
Sam Kerr is currently engaged to fellow professional footballer Kristie Mewis.
