The 2024 Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning, and so far, we’re seeing a pretty robust show of affection for typically underrepresented communities. LGBTQIA faves like Jodie Foster and Bella Ramsey have all been nominated for their outstanding performances in film and television. Here are some of the queerest highlights.
Film
The 2024 Golden Globes film nominations are practically a queer dream! Greta Gerwig’s hit film Barbie has been rightfully nominated in several categories such as Best Film and Best Director. After painting the whole world pink this summer, Barbie was a queer delight and featured DIVA faves like Kate McKinnon and Hari Nef.

Nyad, which tells the story of the lesbian iconic swimmer Diana Nyad, also received high praise with nominations for Annette Bening and Jodie Foster for their performances.
In the Best Animated Film category, Disney dominated with their knock-out hits like Elemental and Wish. Elemental made headlines earlier this year by being the first Disney film to feature a non-binary character.
Legendary lesbian comedian Wanda Sykes’ stand-up show Wanda Sykes, I’m An Entertainer featured in the nominations for Best Stand Up category. And finally, TIME magazine’s Person Of The Year Taylor Swift also received a nomination for her Eras Tour film due to its box office success.
Television
Although a large number of television-related nominations went to the cast of Succession, our friends at Only Murders and Ted Lasso fought their way to the top. Not only did both shows receive nominations for Best Television Series, but both Hannah Waddingham and Selena Gomez have been nominated for Best Performance By A Female Actor for their supporting and lead roles respectively.

Other shows with LGBTQIA storylines like The Last Of Us and The Morning Show were also nominated for Best TV Drama, reminding us once again of the power of queer storylines. Bella Ramsey, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, was nominated for their role in the HBO hit The Last Of Us.
Music
For their original hit song, written for the blockbuster film Barbie, Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas were nominated for What I Was Made For alongside musical legends like Bruce Springsteen, Lenny Kravitz, and Dua Lipa.
DIVA magazine will celebrate 30 years in print in 2024. If you like what we do, then get behind LGBTQIA media and keep us going for another generation. Your support is invaluable.
