Christmas isn’t always easy if you’re LGBTQIA. In a 2021 survey by PinkNews, over 80% of LGBQTIA people said that they felt the need to hide who they were around the festive period. This year you can help to brighten up this holiday by donating to Trans Secret Santa UK.
Think2Speak, the LGBTQIA youth organisation, has teamed up with activist Jude Guaitamacchi, trans artist Mister Samo, and Octavian Starr to spread Christmas cheer to trans youth across the country. When you donate to their Crowdfunder page, you’re helping to send out secret gift bundles and cards to trans youth across the UK.
Jude Guaitamacchi said on the power of the project: “Spending time on a residential with Think2Speak recently, I saw the impact of giving trans youth hope that they can grow up and thrive. They are surrounded by so much negativity and as an activist and campaigner, I realised the importance of spreading some much-needed positivity. This Christmas I just want young trans people to have a moment of joy.”
At a time when 78% of trans youth experience bullying at school, receiving kind gestures like a gift could be a lifeline to a young trans person. The initiative has already raised over £1,000 and is hoping to provide as many trans young people with something to make them smile this Christmas.
