We can’t wait to dance to these tracks in the club

Have you ever been in a club and thought: “I really wish they would play some sapphic dance hits.” Well, you’re in luck. Romy – who you may know from the band The xx – has just released her debut album Mid Air.

Throughout this year Romy has been teasing us with singles such as Loveher and Enjoy Your Life, but finally, the day has come when the album can be listened to in its entirety. It’s not too often that you get to hear sapphic declarations of love on a dance track, but Romy is here to change that for good.

“It’s an album that deals with love, grief, relationships, identity and sexuality. It’s a love letter to the queer clubs where I’ve found community and connection,” Romy explains.

With tracks like Enjoy Your Life sampling the iconic trans artist Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Mid Air is an album which is unapologetically an ode to queer culture, love, and music. Having cut her teeth as a DJ in the queer nightclubs of Soho, Mid Air is very much inspired by the crowds it will soon be played out to.

DIVA was lucky enough to listen to Mid Air earlier this year and meet Romy herself in person to talk about the album further. Keep your eyes peeled for our exclusive interview in our October/November issue…

DIVA magazine celebrates 29 years in print in 2023. If you like what we do, then get behind LGBTQIA media and keep us going for another generation. Your support is invaluable.
