Known for her portrayal of Lindsey Corkhill in Channel 4’s Brookside and her work on Coronation Street, Claire Sweeney has now joined forces with Diversity Role Models as their newest Patron.

Diversity Role Models is a charity which aims to create safe spaces for young LGBTQIA people to feel accepted and supported. Other Patrons include broadcaster Clare Balding, our very own Publisher Linda Riley, and Olivier award-nominated actor and playwright Rob Madge.

“As a dedicated ally to the LGBTQ+ community and a parent myself, I’m proud to serve as a patron for Diversity Role Models,” Claire said in light of her new role. “Every child deserves a secure and accepting school environment, where they’re free to be themselves. Let’s work together to make schools a safe space for all.”

Claire has previously won the Rainbow Honours 2022 Celebrity Ally of the Year for her support of the LGBTQIA community. For fans of Brookside, this is no surprise considering Lindsey’s very own sapphic storyline. The show itself actually featured the first pre-watershed lesbian kiss on British TV between Beth Jordache (Anna Friel) and Margaret Clemence (Nicola Stephenson).

We love you Claire, and can’t wait to see all the amazing work that you do with Diversity Role Models. To find out more about Diversity Role Models, click here
