Oban Lesbian Weekend is one of the few small businesses to reach the final of the Proud Scotland Awards 2023 which will be hosted on 3 June in Glasgow. The Oban Lesbian Weekend is Scotland’s one and only festival for LGBTQ women, non-binary people and friends, regardless of gender.
With staggeringly beautiful scenery, Oban might possibly be the new lesbian capital of Scotland thanks to the Oban Lesbian Weekend. With everything from castles to cruises, ceilidhs and even live music, this year’s festival will take place on 28-31 July 2023.
Maz Gordon founded Oban Lesbian Weekend last summer when she realised that Oban was lacking a visible lesbian community. She told OutNewsGlobal: “We have women coming from rural parts of the country who said that they felt isolated and didn’t have a lesbian community but since attending Oban Lesbian Weekend, they’ve made lifelong friends.”
This year’s festival will see Edinburgh legend LGBTQIA DJ Trendy Wendy back by popular demand as well as DJ Sandra D & Alabaster Queen to bring the good vibes all weekend long. Somewhere between a mix of a package holiday and a mini festival, there is no other weekend out there that can beat Oban Lesbian Weekend.
One attendee from last year said: “I’ve been to events in London and other places for years but I’ve never been anywhere that had as good an atmosphere or was as friendly as Oban Lesbian Weekend.”
Oban Lesbian Weekend will be raising funds for Argyll Wellbeing Hub, which offers mental health support in Argyll. They are also supporting Leap Sports which promotes LGBTQIA participation in sports with an aim to end homophobia and discrimination.
For those who attended the pilot festival last year, the most exciting part of the Oban Lesbian Weekend was the community that it formed.
