Asexual activist and model Yasmin Benoit will be leading NYC Pride on 25 June alongside queer icons such as Billy Porter, AC Dumlao, Hope Giselle and Randolfe “Randy” Wicker.
After coming out in 2017, Yasmin created the #ThisIsWhatAsexualLooksLike movement and co-founded International Asexuality Day (6 April). She was the first asexual person to appear on the cover of Attitude magazine, and has recently won the Campaigner/Influencer of the Year at the Rainbow Honours.
Yasmin has also spearheaded the UK’s first asexual rights initiative in partnership with Stonewall called The Stonewall x Yasmin Benoit Ace Project.
This year’s celebration will see Pose actress Angelica Ross return for her third year to host.
Last year’s Grand Marshals for NYC Pride included Ts Madison, Punkie Johnson, Schuyler Bailar, Dominique Morgan, and Chase Strangio. Other notable Grand Marshals include Laverne Cox, Cyndi Lauper, and Billie Jean King.
